MEGATIVE

promo packshot
Artist: MEGATIVE
Title: More Time
Label: Last Gang Records
Genre: Reggae / 70s Punk / Ska Influence
Release: June 2017

Megative is a Brooklyn-based collective creating a dark and deep subterranean dub, heavily influenced by the sounds coming out of the UK punk and reggae scene of the late 70’s. Fronted by Tim Fletcher (The Stills), alongside producers Gus van Go (Arkells, Whitehorse, Wintersleep), NYC producer-duo Like Minds, and featuring dancehall veteran Screechy Dan (Ruff Entry Crew). Part Gorillaz, part The Clash, laced with Lee “Scratch” Perry-style dub FX, hip-hop beats, and swirling sirens right out of Massive Attack’s sound-system!

Together, they aim to create music that’s at once an homage to their influences, from Kingston to London, yet is fully living in today’s New York...with lyrics and grooves that challenge the current state of our social and political reality. Truly...music for this generation!

S O S

Artist Biography
Behind S.O.S is Sophie Debattista, a 22-year-old Anglo-Maltese singer, songwriter, producer and busker. She was originally born in Malta and it was there where she established her passion for music. Throughout her late teens, Sophie was a resident singer on Maltese national television and performed at numerous prestigious events on the Island. By the age of 18, the young songstress embraced her British routes and followed her love of music to the UK. Four years down the line, she now resides in Bedford and regularly performs around the live music circuit in London.

A scholarship, awarded to Sophie in 2013, enabled her to study for a BA in Songwriting at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) in London, which has played a major role in her success in the UK so far. Throughout her career in the British music scene, Sophie has been fortunate enough to gain many significant performance opportunities. Namely: performing at the IndigO2 as a support act for US superstar Ciara (2013), Busking at The Brits at The O2 Arena (2014), associated events with Capital FM, BBC Radio, Liverpool FC TV and London Live TV, Busking at The Roundhouse London for the London Music Awards (2014), main stage performer at London Pride in Trafalgar Square (2014) and appearances at The O2 Arena Priority Lounge supporting The X Factor Tour (2015), S Club 7, Ariana Grande, Take That and One Direction (2015 & 2016).

Towards the end of 2015, Sophie’s music took an exciting turn as she began to experiment with music production. This lead to the creation of her own distinct sound enhanced by her mechanically influenced productions, which today could be described as a mixture of; Ellie Goulding, Lorde, NAO and Halsey.

She was recently in the studio with her producers recording debut EP ‘Edges of The Mind’ due for release in late 2017. Her first 2 singles taken from the EP, titled ‘Bittersweet’ and ‘Silent Witness’, received support by several British Media including BBC Radio Introducing, BBC Radio 6 and Clash Music Magazine.

Sophie feels extremely fortunate to be able to do what she loves most in such a diverse country that keeps inspiring her and her music everyday. She says: “Music is my everything. I am continuously influenced by some incredibly diverse artists such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, Prince, Lorde and more. Recently my writing has entered a new and exciting phase, and the release of my debut EP will be your first chance to hear the ‘real me’ and my new electronic pop sound. So please keep in touch @sosofficial for all things wonderful, updates and more!! x.o.x” – S.O.S

“Silent Witness” is the eagerly awaited 2nd single to be released by the Bedford-based, 22-year-old singer songwriter Sophie Debattista aka S.O.S, a first-class graduate from The Institute Of Contemporary Music Performance. The electro-pop tune will be accompanied by an edgy and intense music video created by up-and-coming director AJ Ullah and will be released on the 14th April via her independent label Sossy Music. “Silent Witness” will be available for download through the S.O.S website; www.sosofficial.co.uk and through all the digital music platforms including; iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play Music, Napster and more. S.O.S headed the production team on the trend-setting track alongside the renowned mastering engineer Shane the Cutter who has worked with the likes of Nathan Fake, Luke Abbott, Blu Mar Ten and DJ Shadow amongst others. Career highlights for the young, up-and-coming writer so far include live performances supporting US superstars Ciara and Ariana Grande, British legends Take That and One Direction whilst playing other top venues such as the NEC Birmingham, The Roundhouse Camden, IndigO2, O2 Islington Academy, Barfly Camden, Proud Camden (headliner), Troubadour (headliner) and The Water Rats to name a few.

S.O.S’s tantalizing lead single “Bittersweet” received top press coverage and radio play including support from the likes of BBC Introducing, BBC6’s Tom Robinson and Clash Music amongst many others. This heightens the anticipation and excitement leading up to “Silent Witness”, making it the second single to be released from her forthcoming debut EP “Edges Of The Mind”; set to be unveiled later this year. This catchy, yet seductive track features the singer’s mysteriously attractive vocals, blended together perfectly with a mix of electronically influenced beats, intricate and detailed lyrics, a controversial topic and a pulsing chorus whose melody keeps the listener hooked throughout.

Sophie explains the song’s backstory, “Silent Witness is about a young girl who finds herself in a difficult situation. She’s at an age where her friends are beginning to experiment with new ventures however she doesn’t feel like she’s ready to join them just yet and doesn’t want to rush into maturing too quickly. When she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, she’s forced into making an important decision. Either live up to her friends’ expectations or listen to her heart and not go through with it. The song explores the different emotions that the young girl goes through at this though time. She wants to remain credible but wants to be sensible at the same time, so does she go through with it or does she manage to come up with a different solution? You’ll have to listen to the song to find out…”.
