Yvad's 'Riverton' is a six-song EP that highlights the singer's greatest qualities and his considerable growth as an entertainer.
The EP, which was released on November 27, features Hungry BellyNo ChaliceRivertonJust Waiting, and No Chalice Dub mix that gained some recognition at the Herb Festivals where he performed this year.
It also has the inspirational Tribute for Bob Marley and the Wailers.
The EP features a slew of guest musicians, including the accomplished Wayne Armond of the group Chalice, Bongo Herman, Lamonty Savory, formerly of C-Sharp, and Feluke, Demar Gayle, Courtland White, Anthony Watson of Raging Fyah, Gregg Henry (Rhythm 2000), Tony Green, Everton and Everald Gayle and Vivian Scott, Glen Browne, Delroy WormBass, Carol Dexter and Astor Campbell all of whom contributed their immense talents to the project.

Very satisfied

All songs were engineered by Rohan Dwyer at his Groove Box Studio.
"I am very satisfied with the finished product," Yvad told THE WEEKEND STAR. "We have a bunch of top musicians on there. It's really good."
Yvad said that they are mulling releasing Just Waiting as the first single.
"It is one the strongest ones on the album. Most of the songs are pretty good but this one is definitely talking about my struggle in my career," he said. "There are a lot of people like me who have been through the same trials in the music business. Some people get it overnight, but, for me, the older I get, the better I become. If you listen to the EP and compare it to the other stuff, you will see the growth."
The singer is now busy promoting the EP. He and his handlers are also looking to tour Europe in 2018 to promote the EP overseas.

The return of reggae singer Yvad - "The message has to get out"

YvadDread_Reggaemusic.jpgOnce hailed in music circles as the Next Big Thing, these days, music aficionados have had to be asking instead: What happened to Yvad?
Well, these days Yvad is signed to New Beat Records, and is working on a new album which will be completed within the next two months.
"Since teaming up with Victor Simpson, I am just getting ready to launch the attack," Yvad said.
At this point, 12 tracks have been completed, and Yvad had worked with such industry heavyweights as Clive Hunt, Wayne Armond, David Kennedy, Michael Myrie, Bobby Digital, and Mikey Bennett.
When Yvad hit the scene with the album "Young, Gifted & Dread" - released by Ras Records in 1996 - he was surrounded by hype, but promptly disappeared.
Of the years since then, Yvad only commented:
"Sometimes, a lot of artistes have to struggle with contractual things, but I am good to move right now," he said.
Industry insiders disclosed that Yvad was locked into a contract that he did not like, but never stopped working, amassing an impressive catalogue of unreleased songs while working out of a studio in New York.
Since returning to Jamaica, he has traveled a lot between Kingston and Central Jamaica, getting his head together, and he readies himself to re-launch his career.
"Over the years, I have been writing and recording consistently, I have the Yvad catalogue, and once this new album builds momentum, I have a lot of unreleased stuff that the whole world is going to want to hear," he said.
Yvad was born Kevin Davy in Kingston, Jamaica. When he was two years old his parents sent him to the country to escape political violence. In the peace and quiet of the country, he attended school and church, and discovered his love for music. While attending the Moravian Church, he began singing, playing guitar, and became a member of the choir. Yvad was at school with his friends when he formed a singing group. As time passed, he realized that he lived for the moments when they were singing together. He also found that through songwriting he could record his inner-most thoughts in his pensive moments. He was always hanging out at the Bob Marley Museum singing and playing guitar, and it was there that he was discovered by Cedella Marley.
Yvad's sophomore album was "Justice" in 2004 which included an awesome cover version of John Lennon's "Imagine" which earned rave reviews from critics and disc jocks. Now, he is looking to seal the deal with his third.
The lead single for the album could be 'Sweet Jamaica' or 'The Cry for the Youths' which are both awesome tracks that this reporter was able to listen to during the interview. It showed that Yvad remains as irrepressible as ever, and his mellow, ital vibes bleed out of the tracks.
"When the album is complete, I intend to shop it around to the major record companies, but if doesn't work out, I plan to sell and distribute this album myself. The message has to get out," he said.
And that it will. We have a feeling that the whole world will be beating a path to his door to listen to Yvad's unique reggae stylings. You can bet your house on it.

Cheri Janae

“I learned to write from the heart and sing high notes over drum-driven beats and melodies which to me symbolizes a girl from a tough city fighting for her dreams.” –Cheri Janae

Chicago has been known for vocal powerhouses Jennifer Hudson and Chaka Khan and hip-hop artists Kanye West, Chance the Rapper, and Common –influencing both urban and pop culture. However, singer and songwriter Cheri Janae have talent and a sound of her own that promise to do the same.

Her musical journey started after writing, recording, and performing for other artists under a different music vision during her late teens and early college years. That’s when Cheri Janae decided that a four-year break from music was needed to grow as a young woman and really learn the music business.

But perhaps it was the last words from her late-aunt who said: “follow your heart” that put the fire under Cheri Janae when she began to lose her way while teaching Language Arts, speech, and modeling classes to make financial ends meet. From that moment, Cheri Janae vowed to no longer wait for anyone else to determine her future and began to fund and produce her own music project.

After writing and recording 12 new songs in 2017, Cheri Janae felt she needed a song that wasn’t just fun or sexy –but a bit of both.  And after receiving tracks by various beat-makers, it was one in particular by Turreekk that stood out. The artist then wrote and re-arranged the music, and titled the song Rewind before leaving a dancehall section for featured artist Solid Shane.

Torn between releasing a mixtape and EP, Cheri Janae decided to raise her own expectations and made Rewind the first self-released single and prelude to her forthcoming EP titled Diamond Park that include six songs and production collaborations with other up and coming beat-makers J Blade, Get Em Louie, and Gee Notez influenced by sounds of music makers’ hometown of Philadelphia, Chicago, and the Caribbean. In addition, Rewind was published on YouTube, IAMTV Radio series and played on internet Radio Power 102.1 Toronto, 103.7 The Beat Chicago, and Power 102.8 LA receiving great reviews from fans across social media, DJs, and other platforms.

Cheri Janae artistry is heavily influenced by reggae, RnB, pop, hip-hop, latin, and jazz as a result of growing up around various cultural sects in the southwest city and suburban parts of Chicago along with her college years as a music and theater performing arts student.

The songstress sings about love bliss, heartache, hope, and club nights with infectious melodies and hooks. Her performances include the Midwest Sony BMG Showcase at Excalibur, House of Blues, Summerfest at LaFinca, Midwest International Music Fest, and Hollywood Aurora Casinos to name a few.

Cheri Janae also wrote with well-established producers and songwriters including a song co-written with Panther and Individuals of Swizz Beats production team that features rap singer and actor Ray J as well as Will Jordan whose writing contributes to hits like Nicki Minaj & Rihanna’s song Fly, and Mick Lee, another writer and producer for Rihanna's early music years.

Cheri Janae's drive and courage are inspiring and her 4.5-octave vocal range, versatile style and persona, and fun heartfelt lyrics proves she is on her way to becoming a well-rounded music artist with international appeal bringing special performances in this new ever-evolving world of entertainment.

Cheri Janae is a singer and songwriter from Illinois. Her first public performance was at the age four but no one knew there would be a strong desire to pursue music because she was shy even though people continued to ask her to perform with dance groups at local talent shows and act in plays. But when she earned a music and theater scholarship to attend one of Chicago’s top private universities from her classical vocal performance of Mozart and Gershwin, things began to change.

Cheri Janae began singing at open mic nights, hair and beauty shows, and sporting events- which led to such opportunities as a commercial jingle and voice-over, print ad and commercial, a Chicago triple-threat finalist for NBC show Fame, mini-stage production of Spike Lee’s film School Daze, a co-starring role in a TV pilot demo produced by Mike Merrill for That Common Production, and a Sony BMG music showcase at Excalibur Nightclub in Chicago. And eventually, Cheri Janae would begin to write and co-produce her own music.

Cheri Janae fuses various styles of RnB, Hip Hop, Reggae, Latin, and Dance music with a 4.5-octave vocal range. She received airplay on college radio stations and weekend radio shows for songs “How Wud U Like” and “I Can Love You”. Mariah Carey, Adele, Jacksons family, Sade, and Missy Elliot are a few of her musical influences. Her producer and beat maker collaboration list includes veteran and new producers from Chicago, Philadelphia, and the Caribbean: Get Em Louie, J Blade, Bryan Hadley, Turreekk, and Gee Notez.

Lyrically, Cheri Janae paints pictures of various phases of love, club nights, and inspiration from personal experiences. When asked during an interview at the Sony BMG showcase to describe who she is as an artist, Cheri Janae stated, “I’m an artist that brings fun back to music thru storytelling, fashion, and rhythmic melodies like a modern-day Diana Ross or Donna Summer.

Cheri Janae past performances include various venues such as House of Blues, Hollywood Aurora Casinos, the International Music Festival, a 107.5 Clear Channel Summer Block Party, and Sporting events such as an ESPNBoxing Match to name a few.

She also wrote on pre-productions with Panther and Individuals of Swizz Beats production team featuring VH1’s reality star and hip-hop singer Ray J, Will Jordan the writer of Nicki Minaj’s and Rihanna’s hit song “Fly”, and Mick Lee who also wrote for commercially successful pop artists.

As Cheri Janae looks forward to her journey in the world of music and entertainment, her ultimate goal is to help others feel good, forget their troubles when they listen and see her perform, and inspire other to always keep faith, hope, and love no matter what life may bring.
